New smartphones are released almost every month, but a new device is not always a significant upgrade compared to its predecessor. In this article, we therefore look at the specifications of the OnePlus 9, the old model, and compare them with the latest offspring of the Oppo daughter: the OnePlus 10 Pro. We will discuss the following factors: body, display & network, platform & memory and the camera.
Body, display & network
The OnePlus 9 weighs 192 grams, while the OnePlus 10 Pro is slightly heavier: 8 grams to be precise. In total, the new device therefore amounts to 200 grams. This difference is almost imperceptible and will take some getting used to anyway. The screen of the OnePlus 10 Pro is a tad larger than that of its predecessor: the OnePlus 9 has dimensions of 160 x 74.2 mm, with the newer version measuring 163 x 73.9 mm. The new phone is therefore slightly longer, but also slightly narrower. The brightness of the display has been slightly increased from 1,100 to 1,300 nits. Both phones are obviously capable of connecting to the 5G network.
Platform & memory
Both descendants in the OnePlus series naturally run on Android. The older version initially uses Android 11, but can be updated to Android 12. The OnePlus 10 Pro runs directly on the latest version of Android 12. The maximum memory you will find under the hood of the older version of the phone is 256GB with a RAM of 12 GB. This is exactly the same with the OnePlus 10 Pro.
Camera
Both devices have a camera with three lenses. The number of megapixels of the OnePlus 9’s cameras is 48, 50 and 2. The new version of the phone makes a profit in this area: the OnePlus 10 Pro has cameras with 48, 50 and 8 megapixels. Whether this change can actually be observed with the naked eye, we must leave to the experts. In any case, what is certain is that both phones score very high in this area.
Upgrade or not?
The question of whether or not to upgrade is not so easy to answer with a yes or a no. If you have a broken screen, or the iPhone defect where Face ID no longer works, it may be advisable to opt for a repair. If you like to keep up with the latest trend, don’t want to lag behind your friends and can afford to pay for a new device, then of course you choose the updated version.
