Spanish medium: Discord within FC Barcelona board – Jordi Cruijff wants to bring Xavi Simons to Barcelona

Both the Spanish newspapers Mundo and Sport have reported this and last week that PSV must also take into account serious interest from FC Barcelona. Simons has appeared on the radar of the Catalan media by excelling on the Dutch fields every week. Reports are also trickling in from England about interest from the major Premier-League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

While Mundo Deportivo announced last week that FC Barcelona would be seriously interested in Simons, SPORT reported that interest would have cooled because the Catalans could not afford Simons. El Nacional then reports that finances would not immediately be the first reason why FC Barcelona would have dropped out for Simons. According to the medium, it has to do with a strong discord in the board of the Catalans.

Jordi Cruijff would like a renewed collaboration between FC Barcelona and Xavi Simons. The sporting director of the Catalan club is very fond of Simons and keeps a weekly eye on his performance. Cruijff thinks that Simons can become the new figurehead of FC Barcelona. Trainer Xavi Hernandez and president Joan Laporta do not like the arrival of Simons. This may have to do with the financial situation of the troubled club. The pair would, according to El Nacional, be ahead of the arrival of other players.
