ADO o21 was supreme against VVV Venlo o21, the current leader from the Division 3A. The fact that the force majeure is not reflected in the final score is a result of a problem that the team has been struggling with since the start: scoring ability. This was also the case in Venlo. There were plenty of chances, only that last shot was missing.
Promising
Within five minutes there was already the first chance after Robyn Esajas took the ball from a defender in the Venlo penalty area. Esajas neatly passed the ball to Calvin Gustina. His cross was punched at the feet of Aimane El Karicha by goalkeeper Craenmehr. The agile winger cut down his direct opponent and saw his shot end up on the keeper. The start was promising and before the break ADO Den Haag o21 got three more chances. First it was again El Karicha, who took just one step too much in his action, so that his shot lacked power.
After El Hannoudi was alone in front of the goalkeeper after a nice pass, he saw his effort blocked by the same goalkeeper and then Nick Broekhuizen also shot at the goalkeeper. In the last five minutes before the break, it was an attempt from distance by El Karicha that ended up on the crossbar out of reach of the Venlo goalkeeper. The fact that it was still 0-0 at halftime, the yellow-blacks could be happy with that. On the Hague side, dissatisfaction prevailed that a safe lead had not yet been taken.
Omit
After rest, the picture hardly changed. It was ADO Den Haag o21, which was the parent and VVV o21 mainly played in their own half. Just like before the break, the visitors could have increased the score within five minutes. Gustina’s shot from outside the penalty area went just over the Venlo goal. A few minutes later it was a corner from Finn de Bruin, who was headed into the goal area by Gylermo Siereveld. Niels Noordhoek tried with a bicycle kick that the goalkeeper of VVV o21 couldn’t quite control. Broekhuizen was there like the chickens, but his effort ended in the hands of the goalkeeper. Twice defender Emre Ates was close to a goal from free kicks by De Bruin. The first headed Ates over, the second managed to stop the goalkeeper.
It was clear that the pressure was only getting higher and higher and it was waiting for the goal from The Hague. After 58 minutes it was time. A cross from El Karicha in the full goal area was nicely tapped in by El Hannoudi: 0-1. Finally, the liberating hit everyone was waiting for. The expectation was that the home team would now collapse, but the opposite was true. Diego van Zupthen had the equalizer on his head within four minutes, but goalkeeper Thijmen de Koning from The Hague reacted alertly and managed to stop the ball.
Hunt
It turned out to be the home team’s only chance afterwards. ADO Den Haag o21 still went on the hunt for more, but also kept the door closed neatly in the back. Broekhuizen was the only player from The Hague who still had a good chance after he was sent off on the edge of offside. Unfortunately, the strength was missing to place a placed ball in the far corner and the goalkeeper managed to stop the ball. After the final whistle from referee Daniël Drost, the relief on the side of The Hague was great. Thanks to the 0-1 victory, ADO Den Haag o21 now plays against PEC Zwolle o21 in the semi-finals. The match in Zwolle was originally on April 29, but then the Zwollenars are already playing a make-up match against FC Twente / Heracles Academy o21. So it’s still a bit of a wait for the new date for this match.
Coming Saturday ADO Den Haag o21 will play the home game against FC Twente/Heracles Academy o21 at De Aftrap. The kick-off is at 3 p.m.
