KV Mechelen is facing an important summer mercato, after it was very calm in terms of transfers during the month of January.
Tim Matthijs is facing his first major transfer window this summer and knows very well what KV Mechelen needs, although the budget must be carefully considered. Yet he knows perfectly which players he wants to get.
“This group could use some assholes anyway. Sometimes you just have to be nose to nose, sometimes there has to be a discussion,” he tells Gazet van Antwerpen. It also has to be budget-wise.
“It is not that our player budget has increased that much. Moreover, there are also some players with nice contracts here. Maybe we should say goodbye to certain guys to make room? That balancing act will always be there at KV Mechelen.”
The profile of the transfer targets is very clear. “We want players who are ready immediately, who already know the competition. We are not going to get players from South America – they usually need more time to adapt – but rather from neighboring countries. And of course our own competition remains an interesting pond to fish in.”
