Organizing dinner parties for friends is always fun. Thinking about the menu choice in advance, creating nice table decorations, getting enough drinks at home, providing suitable music … But sometimes it can be something different. See here our tips for a dinner with an original twist!
1. Wine tasting
Do you and your friends know ‘something’ about wine and do you attach importance to wines that are well matched to the food? Then it can be fun to link a game to it. For example, make a selection of five white wines, such as a pinot grisa sauvignon blanc, a chardonnay, a pouilly fuisse and a riesling. Let your friends taste the wines without knowing which wine is in which glass. Everyone judges the wines based on smell, taste and color and determines which wine goes with which glass. Who scores best on the test?
2. Eating blindfolded
You can also link an eating test to the wine test. Make different amuse-bouches or small snacks with surprising ingredients and let your guests guess what kind of snack it is. If possible, work with multiple choice answers if it would otherwise be too difficult. Don’t forget to take pictures of your friends eating blindfolded! This way you can enjoy this fun moment afterwards.
3. Cooking together
A fun way to bond as friends and deviate from classic dinner party roles is to involve your guests in the cooking. For example, agree that the women will make the starter, the men the main course and that you will all make the dessert together. Fun in the kitchen guaranteed!
4. Play a game
Do your friends enjoy playing games over dinner? Then it can be nice to play a board game à la Escape Room, Pictionary or Cluedo after dinner. This way you avoid the classic coffee and tea moment where you often tend to doze off.
You don’t have to go to a bar to do karaoke. Doing karaoke at home is just as much fun. Install a karaoke app such as Smule, Star Maker, Voloco, Yokee or KaraFun on your smartphone and connect your bluetooth speaker to your mobile phone. Sing classics like “I Want to Break Free” by Queen, “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys or “Mambo No. 5” by Lou Bega. The best way to end a successful evening.
