Despite Ajax’s 3-1 victory over FC Emmen, John Heitinga is not satisfied with his team. The trainer did not see his team reach the necessary level to make it a great football evening.
Trainer out of dissatisfaction after victory over Emmen
Despite a 2-0 lead, Ajax still ran into problems against the number sixteen of the Eredivisie. “It was just a very bad match from us”, Heitinga said to the camera of ESPN. “It was really mediocre on our part.”
Heitinga does have an explanation for Ajax’s poor game. “Many players have of course also left”, he refers to the exodus in the middle of last year. “You have to rebuild a team. We also have to be realistic that this is a different Ajax than in recent years.”
Heitinga emphatically appeared on the sidelines against Emmen. “It was a really terrible match to watch. You score twice before the break, but then simply give away another goal. It’s nice that you still take that margin of two. But these games are also in between. But we played the first half without energy. Emmen got the pace right, but we can do much better than what we showed tonight.”
