Feyenoord strengthened its grip on the Eredivisie title on Sunday by triumphing with a convincing 0-3 win against SC Cambuur. In an away game in Leeuwarden, the team from Rotterdam recorded their ninth consecutive victory.
The visitors took the lead early in the game thanks to a goal from Santiago Giménez in the 17th minute. The Argentinian striker then also had a shot on the post. Feyenoord had even more chances in the first half, but Lutsharel Geertruida and Igor Paixão saw their bets end on the post and crossbar respectively. In the second half, Feyenoord ran further through a brilliant goal from Sebastian Szymanski and a curious own goal from Cambuur defender Calvin MacIntosch. With this victory, Feyenoord increases its lead over pursuers PSV to eight points, after they won 2-3 against FC Volendam earlier in the day.
Ajax will take on FC Emmen later in the evening and will try not to let the backlog against Feyenoord grow any further. The Rotterdam club is already looking forward to next Thursday, when they will face AS Roma in Italy in the Europa League return. For SC Cambuur, relegation seems almost inevitable. The team of trainer Sjors Ultee is eleven points behind Excelsior, which occupies fifteenth place, for a tough challenge to secure survival in the Eredivisie.
