Feyenoord has rewarded Mats Wieffer for his good player. He has signed a new improved contract that will keep him with the Rotterdammers until mid-2027.
He came over from Excelsior last summer and has become a permanent fixture. “I have said before that it went quickly and sometimes feels a bit unreal,” says the midfielder on the club website. “But when I got the chance I went for it and it makes me incredibly proud to be here now.”
The Orange-international continues: “This reward is not only an extra confirmation, but let me also think about how special it is what I am now experiencing. At the same time, I want nothing more than to do everything I can to continue this line. If we as a team continue to do what has characterized us all season, then it can be very nice weeks.”
Wieffer gradually fought his way into the base at Feyenoord during the season. He made such an impression that national coach Ronald Koeman selected him for last month’s international match. He made his debut in De Kuip in the 3-0 European Championship qualifier against Gibraltar.
