Best 5 apps to protect your phone

A mobile phone is an indispensable part of our lives today. Despite the fact that it brings a lot of advantages, we also have to be careful when using a smartphone. It is one of the most common ways in which you risk having your personal data, photos and videos or important data intercepted. That’s why here we have the best five apps that you can use to protect your mobile phone.

1. A VPN

A first application that we recommend is a VPN. A VPN offers several advantages, including the fact that my IP address is hidden and your data is sent and received encrypted. That way others cannot view your data, even if they manage to intercept it. This is very useful if you think about bank account numbers, photos and videos, for example.

In addition, you can also use an open WiFi network without any worries. Normally we wouldn’t recommend this, but with a VPN it’s not a problem. Due to the encrypted aspect that we mentioned above, it is not possible for hackers who use the same open network to view your data.

2. Private Messenger

A Private Messenger is also a good option to communicate securely with others. Although WhatsApp is of course used by the vast majority of Dutch people, it is not inconceivable that data will be collected from you. There are therefore various other services that work completely privately, so that no data is collected.

3. DuckDuckGo

A third app we would recommend is DuckDuckGo. It is an application and search engine with two main purposes. First of all, they do not store any of your personal information, including when it comes to searches. In addition, they also do everything they can to prevent other websites or applications from collecting personal data from you. They have a specific way of privacy that ensures that your data cannot end up in the wrong hands.

4. Password manager

A password manager should not be missing in this overview. It is the best way to use a wide variety of passwords and not have to remember them yourself. You should see a password manager as a digital safe in which all your passwords are stored. You then have access to these passwords with one ‘master password’.

You can also generate your own passwords with most password managers. That way you can create a password completely randomly with numbers, letters and characters. This makes it very difficult for hackers to crack the password.

5. Find my device

And finally, we always advise to activate the app of ‘Find my device’. This also works when your phone is off. By using your online account from, for example, Apple or Android, you can see where your devices are via the browser. So use it not only for your smartphone, but also for your laptop and tablet.

In short, with these applications you ensure that both your smartphone and all your other devices are a lot safer. This way you not only surf the internet safely, but you also know for sure that your personal data is at much less risk.
